This project with the objective to develop a new exterior design for a front mower.

The aesthetical and functional needs of the user were investigated through a thorough research including market analysis, benchmarking, interviews and a survey. In so doing the target audience for the product was identified, and primary and secondary personas created. The user needs were then further investigated and more defined.

To maintain core values of the brand in the new product a shape and color analysis of the current product range was implemented. Together with the research data this analysis lead to the development of a moodboard that was used to visualize the feeling of the product at an early state.

Data from the research was then used to design the Specification of demands and explain what demands and wishes the project is to fulfill. The most important quality was a modern exterior design that preserves the communion with other similar products. This specification was then used as an evaluation tool throughout the entire design process.

During the concept phase data from the research were used as a source of inspiration to generate ideas. The work was carried out by analog explanatory sketching and further evaluated and developed by clay modeling and persuasive digital sketches. The extensive sketch material was developed into three concepts and later refined into one final concept.

The final concept was then further developed by adapting it for the materials of choise, the manufacturing technique and for ease of assemble. The final result is a user friendly and modern front mower with idiom and function in appeling design.
